Product Description
Takara Tomy’s “Missing Link” series is a lineup of hypothetical reissues imagining what might have existed back in the original era! The newest entry in the series is the Autobot security officer, Ironhide!
Although Ironhide was released overseas as part of the initial 1984 lineup, his domestic release in Japan was ultimately shelved when the line was introduced there in 1985. The original toy featured a design where the vehicle split into two separate mechanical units: the robot component took the form of a power loader — a look vastly different form his animated appearance — while his head was merely represented by a decal affixed to the seat visible through the front windshield.
With this release, the Missing Link series tackles a fascinating hypothetical: what if Ironhide had been designed back then with the same heroic aesthetic as his fellow Autobots, resulting in a style much closer to his animated version?
Ironhide transforms from a red Nissan Cherry Vanette — a one-box wagon — into a robot. While retaining the original construction that utilized die-cast zinc alloy parts, this figure transforms via a single, seamless sequence, shifting from a vehicle mode that closely mimics the vintage toy into a heroic-looking robot mode capable of dynamic action poses! Furthermore, the figure features a third configuration: Respect Mode, designed to pay homage to the robot mode of the original 1984 toy.
The included accessories feature chrome plating and replicate equipment seen in both the animation, such as the Drill, and the Laser, seen in the vintage toy. The rocket launcher mounted on his back allows for the attachment and detachment of rockets, and both the drill and rockets can be conveniently stowed away inside his backpack compartment. Details that were originally represented by decals on the vintage toy are now faithfully recreated through three-dimensional sculpting and paint applications. A sheet of foil decals is also included, allowing you to apply additional details to your liking.
Also included is a human female figure, identical to the one included with the C-11 Delta Magnus, which can be seated in the driver’s seat in any of the figure’s three modes. Finally, a “Secret Emblem” is affixed to the robot’s body; simply warm it with your finger to reveal the faction insignia! The robot figure also features a joint port on its back that’s compatible with separately-sold display stands, allowing it to be posed dynamically for display.
The packaging artwork is a brand-new illustration designed to evoke the nostalgic atmosphere of the original era, and a collectible card is also included.
